Annotation
Many aspects of the artist’s life and work remain outside the field of view of researchers. Such elements include the natural landscape surrounding the creator. His election
as a genius indicates a certain importance, which makes it relevant to study the relationship between the natural territorial complex as a place of residence and the artist. The purpose of the article is to analyze the role of the natural landscape in the life of a genius. The object of the study was the problem of the influence of the Taos mountains on the artist N. I. Feshin. The methods of scientific work are analytical and hermeneutic. As a result of studying the issue, it turned out that the short period of residence in Taos (1927–1933) was a new period of creative growth for Nikolai Ivanovich. Taos’ choice was no coincidence. The artist found in it a space consonant with himself, satisfying his physical and spiritual-aesthetic needs. Nikolai Ivanovich was particularly impressed by the Taos mountains. They served as a symbol of strength, stability, and greatness for the master. With their name Blood of Christ, the mountains reminded Nikolai Ivanovich of the Orthodox faith and his father. They represented the inner loneliness of the artist, the difficult path of spiritual search and the achieved peaks in creativity. The master admired their beauty at different times of the day/year. The few mountain landscapes testify to the sacredness of the Taos space for N. I. Feshin. The natural beauty of Taos, with its transitions from mountains to plains and faults, simultaneously symbolized the artist’s difficult and volatile fate. The raised problem of the impact of mountain landscapes on creativity and their relationship
with the fate of the artist seems to be quite relevant. It allows you to rethink the creative process of a genius, to understand his creations in a new way and to reveal the features of the inner world.
