Annotation

This article examines aspects of protecting the rights and freedoms of indigenous peoples of the North (IPN), extending beyond traditional legal issues and related to the unique cultural content of northern regions. From the perspective of P. Sztompka’s concept of “cultural trauma”, the degree of vulnerability of the culture of the indigenous peoples of the North in modern conditions is shown due to the uneven pace of socio-cultural changes in society. In these conditions, the problem of preserving the cultural identity of the indigenous peoples of the North and their right to access their native culture, language, traditions and customs takes on a social dimension. A conceptual analysis of the preconditions for cultural trauma, as well as the results of field research, convincingly support the need to protect the culture of northern peoples by implementing the measures described in the article. Otherwise, the northern peoples face an irreversible collapse of their cultural identity, and our country faces the irreversible loss of part of its cultural diversity.
