Annotation
I. M. Sechenov’s activity is considered as one of the key episodes in the discussion of the anthropological principle, which was caused by N. G. Chernyshevsky’s article The Anthropological Principle in Philosophy. It is shown that solidarising with N. G. Chernyshevsky’s point of view on the material unity of the world and the unity of human nature, I. M. Sechenov opposes P. D. Yurkevich’s views. It is noted that the basis of the discussion of the anthropological principle is the difference between monistic and dualistic epistemology. Relying on monistic gnoseology, I. M. Sechenov develops psychophysiology as a science capable of solving the psychophysical problem of soul-body dualism. From the position of 19th century science, I. M. Sechenov challenged the key provisions of gnoseological dualism.
