Annotation

The article discusses the need for new approaches to the study of migration problems in the world. The steady growth of migration flows and the stability of the reasons for the mass movement of people allow us to consider the migration process not only as a social phenomenon, but also as a social institution. Such an approach is able to provide a qualitative analysis of migration problems in new conditions, when the old ideological justifications of globalization are undergoing a serious transformation. Considering migration as a social institution corresponds to the trends of the formation of a multipolar world. The institutionalization of migration is becoming a response to the numerous challenges of our time, such as natural disasters, pandemics, and wars. In this case, the problem of the dialogue of cultures, which contributes to the processes of integration, prevents the escalation of various types of conflicts, and generally harmonizes social relations, becomes of decisive importance. In this article, based on the experience of fundamental and applied research on the phenomenon of migration, an attempt is made to reveal the essential aspects of this phenomenon, in particular focusing on the mechanisms of transformation of migration into a social institution.
