Annotation

Today, scientific and political figures in the military construction of the modern Armed Forces of the Russian Federation often turn to the historical past of the state, in particular to the socio-cultural, national and religious traditions of the Russian people. At the same time, the military traditions of the Russian Imperial and Soviet armies are of particular interest for the purpose of their practical use to improve the military organization of the Russian Federation. The article considers the experience of the development of military traditions of the Russian imperial and Soviet armies and their place in the political history of Russia in the 19th – 20th centuries.
