Annotation
The article examines the views on society of two prominent European thinkers — Alexis de Tocqueville and Vilfredo Pareto. The author analyzes in detail their approaches
to the study of different aspects of society. Among the problems considered by Tocqueville and Pareto, the following stand out: the evolution of the social system, the causes of social conflicts, the influence of ideas on social behavior, the role of religion in the direction of social processes, the transformation of political regimes, the social foundations of personality and others. The article contains a comparison of the ideological positions of Tocqueville and Pareto, which shows both similar and different perceptions of the same social processes. Tocqueville’s social views are examined on the basis of an analysis of his works “Democracy in America” and “The Old Regime and the Revolution”, and Pareto’s thoughts are isolated from his works “Socialist Systems” and “A Treatise on General Sociology”. At the end of the article, it is concluded that there are common and contradictory statements of two outstanding scientists.
